Could you tell me the meaning of the following sentence "He paid me 20 bucks under the table"?Thank you .

It means money was exchanged without having taxes taken out.

The pay isn't recorded anywhere, it's just between the two off them.


think of it this way, if you literally passed money to someone under a table, no one would see you doing it.



Another way of saying it would be "off the books"
