There's a sentence about the film"crash":"Despite compelling plot twists,this film is hard to watch."Could sb explain the clause ,please?thanks!

I believe what is meant is that the compelling plot twists are what people like in a film, but the many aspects of the film which show the negative characteristics of man make us uncomfortable.
