It's an elegant game really. Every two digit number in which you add the digits and subtract them from the original, leaves you with a fixed number, which seems to be a multiple of nine.
Next, all it has to do is refresh the table with new symbols everytime, taking care to have the same symbols pop up as the nine multiples, and then show that one after ten seconds.

yeah and notice how the symbols are in rows of 14, and not even in regular columns to disguise the fact that all multiples of 9 have the same symbol.

[if it had rows of 9 the end column would be all the same symbol and dead easy to spot.]

I just might be kidding, too, ya know!
Um ... maths excellence is not really my claim to fame, tsa. But it's nice to pretend for a bit!

Yeah, math is my enemy, too. I'm just glad someone figured it out. I probably would have stared at it all weekend trying to figure it out. And all I would have gotten was a headache.

So, like, any 2 digit number can be expressed as 10*x+y.

If you add the two digits together, you get x+y.

The original number less the two digits, then, is (10*x+y)-(x+y).

Which is the same as 10*x-x+y-y.

Which is the same as 9*x.

So the answer is always a multiple of 9.

Ha!

Dag. I was thinking maybe, just maybe, I had stumbled across someone who was worse at math than I was.

But then I remembered that you speak 150,000 languages and I knew that......

.... you were still smarter than me.

Oddly, Francis, my kneejerk reaction to being called obtuse is to accuse them of being abstruse. Strangely, it often works.

nah, i'm just too dense to read and remember instructions. i was staring at two numbers (instead of 23 i would stare at 2 and 3), which of course, didn't get me anywhere

If you do not follow the instructions, but simply click through the screens, the program will respond with what ever symbol is used for the multiple of 9 for that session.
