Can you tell me the meaning of "get a drop on" in this sentence:
Don't let the other boys get the drop on you at the beginning of the race.

It probably means to get a better start. The usual expression in English would be to "get a jump on" when referring to a race. Get the drop on is usually used when referring to one person getting a weapon pointed before his opponent has the chance.
