No. she wolf I disagree (I hope you dont mind)

Compare the two sentences.

Chance plays a big part in board games.

Opportunity plays big part in board games.

I would say chance provides opportunity.

Opportunity in the above sentence would mean something like having your friends decide to play a game and inviting you to play with them. You now have an opportunity in a board game.

Chance in the sentence refers to the likelyhood that one will roll the dice and receive the correct number in order to progress in the game and win. Chance is random.

Chance can be substituted for opportunity in some sentences, but the meaning of chance in the sentence provided refers to a different concept.

I can say, for example:

Did you get a chance to look over my paperwork today?

Did you get an opportunity to look over my paperwork today?

But I couldn't say the following and have it mean the same thing:

This house was a mess when I bought it. I really took my chances. (meaning I took a risk. I wasn't sure how it would turn out.)

This house was a mess when I bought it. I really took an opportunity when I bought it. (meaning I viewed the purchase favorably - I took advantage of an opportunity that came my way, knowing I would benefit.)
