can you tell me what does "hit the target "mean?

It can mean 2 diffrent things.

You can make a literal translation - Hit the target means you have physically struck a designated point with an object.
Like taking a baseball bat and hitting the target.

Or, if you are in conversation, you could use that term to mean you have discovered the exact meaning of a situation you are discussing.
