"Good Lord!" in most cases translates as "I am surprised".

It's usually used at the begining of a sentence - more often spoken than written down - like "Good Lord! I didn't know that!"

I use that expression on a somewhat regular basis.

It's one that can be used in polite company, not offensive in other words.

Other expressions similar to saying "Good Lord!" would be....

My heavens!

My stars!

Goodness! or
Goodness gracious!

I typically use that expression when my sweetheart jumps naked out of the bedroom and into my lap. Followed quickly by another expression-- Thank you Jesus!
