Embarrassed Does MBE mean "Meembers of the British Empire"? If it dose,then what kind of people can gain this glory?thank you!

Of course, the word "Empire" meant so much more back in 1917 than it does today, as far as the British are concerned.

In 1917, Britain governed a large portion of the globe.

Nowadays, we govern ourselves....and......well, that's about it, really.
