I met a sentence with a strange phrase "as sure as eggs is eggs" Here why use "is" but not "are"
I'm looking forward to hearing from you .

Grammar wise you are correct, since the word "is" is wrong here. This phrase, however, seems to have become almost proverbial. And as such it is often used, and therefor, in that specific meaning only, correct
It means being completely sure.
