hi:
I read a sentence :"Several times she pushed back the cop who tried to slap her with a 50-yuan penalty."I'm wondering if it is proper to use 'cop' here, because I think this word is a bit sacrastic.

If the person in question is, in fact, a policeman, cop is an English word for same, but it is less formal; I don't think sarcasm is an appropriate interpretation.

If I remember a couple of legends correctly, 'cop' refers either to 'constable on patrol' or is short for copper, which may have been a reference to the copper buttons on their sleeves.
