Do these words("dog-eat-dog")come from one of Guy de Maupassant's short story?Sorry! I have forgoten the story's name!It's something about a dog be thrown into a deep hole.

I'm sorry, 10000kbps, but I haven't a clue as to who this Guy Messypants fellow is.

I always thought that it was just an old saying, meaning that it's a tough old world out there. Survival of the fittest and all that.
