I like it...why do you use "it"?- Can you say: I like when..

Why do you use "it" in this sentence "I like "it" when she talks to me"? Can´t you just say "I like when she talks to me"? I don´t understand the need for "it". Can you explain it to me?

Hey, jose. Welcome to A2K. "it" is a pronoun in English that refers to something unnamed. It could represent some characteristic of what the person likes, but I think this is what we call an idiom in English. I see no reason why the dependent clause "when she talks to me" can't be used. IT just sounds a bit awkward.<smile>
