Hi,everyone.I've got a question to ask you.
"Keep your ? on" means"take your time"?
shirt or skirt or---?I'm not sure.
It's more like "calm down, don't be so impatient"
It's idiomatic, but it's kind of old. My dad used to use it on me when I was a kid.1940s, 1950s vintage. People would probably understand it today, but I'm not sure anyone actually says it anymore, now that I think about it.
I think that you mean it's old-fashioned.Actually I'm wondering how could I know whether a phrase or a idiom is widely-used now.I'm a sudent majoring in English,I must know this.
IF you hear a person saying a phrase then it will probably be reasonably current. Younger people use different expressions than are used by their parents so some expressions are more current than others.
If you read a phrase in a book and want to know if it is current look at the date the book was published.
about a phrase
Similarly, "keep your hair on"-= calm down.
