"The trousers were whiter than white after you used the washing powder for clothes."Here is the sentence from an ad. about washing powder. What's the meaning of "whiter than white"???????? Idea Idea

In the Western World there are several different companies that manufacture laundry detergent. Of course each one of these companies wants to outsell the others.

One way they try to do this to make colorful claims in their advertising. "Whiter than white" means nothing--but it sounds impressive and sells laundry detergent.
