If you wish to get a good answer, you need to provide the sentence in which you have read the expression.

In general, to put someone on their honor means that that person is relied upon to do the right thing without someone watching over on them. I might leave the house briefly, and tell the children (if they are old enough) that i am putting them on their honor not to do bad things while i am gone.
