i read a piece of picture news in the China Daily .I cannot understand it .
that is :A government official shows a bag of confiscated blood clams in this file photo.
what's the meaning of "blood" and the whole sentence?

blood clams are a type of sea shell. here's a photograph i found:

the complete name of this clam is blood clam. it's a noun that's made up of more than one word, which is called a compound noun. another example of a compound noun is the United States of America, which is made up of four words. often, compound nouns are written as one word. for example, bluebird is made up of blue and bird.
