Theres a whole family of dioxin congeners and the ones that show mutagenic properties are those with a 7 in the congener Cl place , like 2,3,5,7 TCDD. All the others are benign. The ones with 7's in a Cl location are produced by rapid oxidation of organochlorine chemicals.
Damn! Is there anything that DOESN'T cause cancer???
My thanks for the elucidation. It seems bizarre to me that through lack of information we continually place ourselves in harm's path.
I would rather they issue a full frontal warning that goes something like
WARNING--If you have anything made or concocted with chlorine in the mix, dont even think about burning it where you can smell the vapors or put the material near food while it cooks. This is just plane dumb, and can cause a whole shitpot of medical problems from asthma, to immune surpression syndromes , all the way to Cancers .
YOU HAVE NOW BEEN WARNED.
Most everything that can kill you (except for benzene ring compounds) has chlorine or flourine in it.
This has been passed around for years, but there is not much science behind it:
