Phthalates in laxatives

Phthalates (and I may have misspelled the word) are plasticising agents that are carcinogens.

I can understand their application in paints and nail enamels, but why are they in the laxative I am supposed to take to prep for a colonoscopy?

They're in both the CVS generic version and the big brand name version.

The drug companies are out to get us, aren't they?
