Was there any real way to end the great depression without war? all of FDR's creations just carried the nation through the depression. they didnt end it. WWII ended it. So was there any way to end the depression if the war didnt come along?
Good q.
It was not only the US that was suffering economic depression, but it's possible the government could have done some things to overcome it.
The government needed to print money and spend it on public works projects. Once money is spent, it begins to circulate within the economy, and more people will "create" work and products to energize the economy.
Our government spent tons of money during WWII for the war effort (which put money in people's pocket), and supplemented that with the GI bill for veterans after the war, and they went to college in droves. That education was the impetus for our economic growth.
Once money is available, it's a matter of simple economics 101, supply and demand.
