What a bunch of idiots, you would think they would at least pick a battlefield where the South had won, although I guess they feel the war isn't over. Logic obviously left town a while back for these guys. They will have 100 people, wow that demonstrates the popular support behind them.

Many Southerners consider the battle of Sharpsburg (as they call it) to have been a victory. Given that they were defending their position at Sharpsburg, and did so successfully, it is understandable why they call it that. Given that McClellan needed to cross Antietam Creek, and crush the Army of Northern Virginia, which he failed to do despite overwhelming superiority of force, the contention that the South "won" is not entirely unreasonable.

Your inferential suggestion that only Southerners are ever members of the Klan, though, is unreasonable. The Urban League was founded after the lynching of a black man in 1911, in Springfield, Illinois.

Actually the battle was a victory and defeat for Lee. It terminated his invasion of the north and McClellan's incompetence allowed him to escape. Those were some expensive cigars.

As for the KKK? Just a sorry bunch of losers beating an old drum. It's best to ignore them.

Maybe they could take part in the reenactment... just make sure the opposing forces are using live ammo.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I forgot about this thread.

In no way shape or form did I suggest that only Southerners are members of the Klan. You can find ignorant people of all colors, religions, ethnicities in every state of the Union. I am also aware that during the Civil War, after and especially at the height of the Klan's power that they reeived tremendous support form Midwestern states as well as in the South.

I also understand that some people consider Sharpsburg to be a victory as Lee barely escaped a crushing defeat and only last second reinforcements held off the piecemeal union assault.

This is the key--McClellan demonstrated incontrovertably his incompetence in his management of the battle. Concerted attacks all along the line would have crushed the Army of Northern Virginia before early afternoon. It might well have ended the war much, much sooner. His actions that day verge on criminal incompetence.
