Daycare cold feet

Well, fabulous news for every reason I have been busting my hump.

Jillian is finally into U.T. day care.
And this place is FAB-U-LOOOOOSE!

Child psychology students and graduates make up most of the staffing.
And I wont even go into their daily structure or lesson plans.
WOW. We are lucky that jillian will be able to be in this program.

The one and only down side wich is easily remedied, is that it is going to cost 300.00 a month.

That out of an already low budget makes me panic.

Solution - advertise my work MORE. And since I will have all day to fill in some more clients, this problem is solved with in a few minutes.

But, now IM scared to leave her.
Actually.. scared is too strong of a word, but I cant think of anything else that quite fits.

How will she handle this. She has never been left with anyone other then her grandma, and that was only for a few minutes at a time, or to just be rocked to sleep at night.
She hasnt gone more then 2 hours with out me or dad.
ESPICALLY not with other kids / adults/ in a new place.

My mind is reeling. Im worried about how she and I will handle this.
Any tips? besides visiting the place with her.... wich I have already worked on and am waiting for a date to begin visits..

what about taking her to friends houses and maybe leaving her for 20-30 minutes at a time to introduce her to ' mommys not here right now'

or is that just being too dang anal?

I'm not sure what you mean by visiting the place with her.

Do you mean stopping by during the day while she's there?

I'm thinking that would make the separation more difficult....mommie's here, mommie's gone, mommie's here, mommie's gone....

gee, I haven't thought of this in a long time, but I had terrible separation anxiety when I was young. However, this was because I would actually be left alone in the house.

When I did go where I wasn't with my mother, but there were other kids or adults, I adjusted pretty quickly.

I mean taking her with me before she is actually enrolled, and hanging out with her.

letting her play, meet the other kids, and kind of wander around while im with her..

the 300 dollar cost was last years rates.

We enrolled for this almost 14 months ago.

the new cost is

Quote:
Our tuition rates are posted online and are expected to increase $25
per
month in the fall. If your household income is under $100,000
Jillian's
tuition would be $580 for the summer and $605 beginning in September.

Shocked

I dont make that much.

I am barely clearing 400 a month right now.

this is going to turn us upside down.
now, im really worried

T used to work at a preschool. Kids weep and moan when being dropped off, then bounce into the routine, then weep and moan when the parents come to pick them up.

Transistions are just hard for kids.

And is that tuition per month?!?!?!? I'd verify, 'cause it sounded like it was for the entire summer/fall.

Is this the same preschool that they use for their experiments?

Laughing Laughing
experiments???

that was either a well needed laugh, or I need to rethink this thing.

I couldnt tell if it was for the entire time or if it was for the month.
Im ASSUMING it is monthly because I dont know diffrent.

And if that is the case, I am not sure what we will do because we just dont HAVE that kind of money.
Mr Wolf only brings home 1700 a month.
400 -rent
325- car
100- small bills
80 a week for groceries.

I make 400 a month. And that is where our gas , clothes and diapers come from.

600 dollars just ISNT THERE.

Im hoping other wise but we will see.

What would help with the change of pace for jillian?

me stopping in during the day?
Staying with her for a while in the morning?
Not stopping in?

What can i do to prepare her?
The rules there will definatly be diffrent from home.
At home she has free run because we make the house so .
There is nothing MAJOR she can get into , and her rules are very few.

My wife ran an in-home daycare for years. Sometimes there were dropins. One day, this little girl came for the day and one of the regulars got ahold of a pair of scissors and cut one of the girl's ponytail's off... she never dropped in again...

Hi there,

Seems like there are a few things to find out, first, like to confirm the cost, and to see whether she can be there for half the time at half the rate, that kind of thing. Do you need her to be in full-time daycare?

If that all works out -- it turns out to be affordable, etc., -- then the next step is focusing on the transition. Visiting with her sounds good, and then talking to her about it, emphasizing how much fun it is, talking about it in terms of playing rather than in terms of you not being there. I bet they (the daycare) will have suggestions for you. You might need to budget extra time at the beginning -- like, just drop her off on days that you don't need to be anywhere else first, so you can stay or leave rather than NEEDING to leave -- that anxiety ("let go, I need to leave now!!") can translate and make things harder.

Good luck!

unfortunatly, the employee cost of UT can not be 1/2 day 1/2 cost.
it is all or nothing because it is such a HUGE discount from the regular rate.

We already worked that out with the day care center.

I just sent them an email asking about that rate.
It seems to me, if i remember correctly, that the rate is broken up over a 5 week period.
But, im not too sure.
They respond rather quickly to email so I should know in a few minutes.

I have kept in mind the scary feeling of " If i dont leave RIGHT now i will be late" so, when I take on extra work, i will make sure that they dont begin for an hour after Beans arrival time at the day care center.

I also just sent a question to the director to see if we can make some visits before her scheduled 'start' time.

Maybe, if I can associate it with play time, like you suggested, it will help alltogether.

Im of course concerned with finances.
breaking up the 580 over 5 weeks isnt TOO bad, but I will also have to budget MORE gasoline because we only have one car and it will be a big carpool session in the mornings.
Mr-to work
Bean-day care
Me-work

>sigh<
This , I will work out in my budget plan for a few weeks and see what I can come up with.
We may have to scrimp , already scrimped pennies to make it work.

There is always a bus line too
but these are things I am going to spend her nap time this afternoon researching .
Im hoping this will work out.

This will give me an opportunity to make more money , have sometime by myself, and make it easier to get into a home.
So it has benefits I cant imagine.

That all sounds promising.

I'm sure you already know about this, but lots of info here:

http://www.utexas.edu/services/childcare/index.html

Including looking like you could be eligible for reduced fees, though I don't know if the include your MIL in the equation.

Quote:
Eligibility
Current University faculty, staff and students may use the center. To be eligible employees must be appointed to a position for 30 hours or more with benefits. Children are placed on the waiting list according to the date of application. Siblings of currently enrolled children receive priority. The program cares for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.

Staff/Faculty Tuition Rates September '05

.......... Level 1*..... Level 2* Level 3 Level 4
Infants .$300 ...........$400 ...$785 ....$890
Toddlers $300 ..........$400 ...$640 ....$790
Two's $300 .............$400 ....$580 ....$690

she quoted me a level 3 price.

we are level one.

Quote:

Level 1 ..............Level 2 ..............Level 3 .................Level 4
$0-30,000 .........$30,001 - 55,000 .$55,001 - 99,999 ....100,000 +

so that means 300 a month. To go up by 25 dollars for fall.

we can do that right now with everything as is.
it will hurt a bit.. but we can do that.

My wife's rate was $150/week/kid, and this was 15 years ago in California.
