Norton, the director of the Interior Dept consistently routes policies through the BLM. No public comment, no problem.

I don't get it. A law, that would keep me from slaughtering a horse when I see one?

If they don't allow this anymore, then I should probably sell my machete on Ebay.

The NRA is the best one out there. I hope they grind up HSUS with the horsemeat.

cjhsa,

Why do you troll animal lover threads? I mean, I get that you support hunting and all, I do as well but the type of comments you make on threads like these are just plain rude.

You do hunting a disservice by thinking that provoking people is the way to defend hunting.

Actually sir, I was just arguing the HSUS argument again.

I will cease at your suggestion and leave this thread alone.

That's part and parcel of it. Yes, animal lovers are frequent opponents of hunting but attacking them doesn't do hunting justice.

IMO it hurts the case for hunting more so than it helps.

The hunters I know are animal lovers, and don't think it's funny to joke about killing animals others are fond of and you frequently do so (i.e. join a cat lover's thread to post pictures of dead cats).

You can't help but know that it will disturb people and it does.

As someone who loves to hunt I think it is a really bad representation of hunting.

Anywho, I'll get off my soapbox and go get that beer I was planning on.

I cannot be a pacifist when organizations like HSUS are attacking my rights.

The "free cat" was a digression I realized was inappropriate and should have attempted to correct, but it was too late. Most of my posts in "The Cat Room" have been lighthearted and good natured. Just stirring the pot.

Just for everyone's peace of mind, I have never killed a horse. There was this one mule once, however, that I wanted to kill...damn thing tried to kill me! (I'm sure there are those here who were rooting for the mule).

how can responsible breeding / ownership / sales can be enforced? how can you prevent incidents like CA with 700 horses starving to death on a " rescue " farm from happening again with thousands upon thousands added to the " unwanted list "?

how many permanently lame beasts do you keep? how many horses are you nursing back to health? how often are you going to slaughterhouses to outbid the meat men? how many mustangs have you taken in?

i love horses. they are symbols of power / beauty and grace and while ive arbitrarily decided the value of a horse's life is greater than that of say a cow im not going to assume everyone's as much a hypocrite as i.

I don't think you should be a pacifist, but not all activism has to be an attack on what you know others are emotional about. That doesn't serve to refute their position at all, it just reinforces the notion that their opponents are meanspirited.

News from California:

Regulators to Ban Hunting Via Internet
Wednesday May 04, 2005 12:23am
http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0505/225623.html

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Wildlife regulators took the first step
Tuesday to bar hunters from using the Internet to shoot animals,
responding to a Texas Web site that planned to let users fire at
real game with the click of a mouse. The Fish and Game Commission
ordered wildlife officials to prepare emergency regulations to ban
the practice. A period of public comment will follow.

"We don't think Californians should be able to hunt sitting at their
computers at home," said Steve Martarano, a spokesman for the state
Department of Fish and Game.

A bill passed by the state Senate two weeks ago would prohibit use
of computer-assisted hunting sites and ban the import or export of
any animal killed using computer-assisted hunting. The measure now
moves to the state Assembly.

At least 14 other states and Congress are considering similar bills.

Groups including the California Sportsmen's Association, Safari Club
International and the Outdoor Sportsman's Coalition of California
support the ban, saying hunting over the Internet is unethical and
unsporting.

Supporters have suggested the remote hunting could be beneficial for
hunters with disabilities and questioned why Californians should be
barred from patronizing a legitimate Texas business.

wenchilina, laws were enacted for the purpose of protecting wild horses and burros. The laws specifically stated that free range animals could not be transported to slaughterhouses after capture. People that adopted the horses signed an agreement for keeping the animals for one year before the horses could be sold. Good law except now - with the oversees consumption of horsemeat <due to mad cow disease> Americas wild horses are rounded up, and sent to slaughter.

Yes, I have resuced horses, yes I have seen farm animals rescued from 'dead piles' at slaughterhouses, and also put in prison a rancher that delivered sick and lame animals to a stock yard. There are many instances of animal abuse, but you don't have to be a farmer, or rancher or own property to do something about the cruelty.

If you love horses, your voice for protecting them counts.

What the hell does remote control shooting have to do with horses?

I would probably never "hunt" over the Internet, however, I don't support banning it either.

Passion before reason. Typical.
