I already gave you that info Walter. HSUS is a Washington D.C. based political action group that is not in any way affiliated with the loose knit Humane Society on the corner.

They do not own or operate any animal shelters. Their primary mission is to lobby congress to get hunting banned forever. For this, the "CEO" gets $.5M/year. Currently, HSUS is financing the efforts to get the dove hunting issue in Michigan on the ballot, where it doesn't belong. Their next target? Bowhunting.

You can see how hard it is to get anyone to understand the difference. The reason they can claim 8M members is because so many of them have been duped thinking the money is helping out kittens and puppies, when in fact it's being spent wining and dining congressmen and other lobbyists.

This is directly from their website:

"We work to reduce suffering and to create meaningful social change for animals by advocating for public policies to protect animals, investigating cruelty and working to enforce existing laws, educating the public about the issues, and conducting hands-on programs, such as assisting animals when disasters strike. Our major campaigns target four primary issues: 1) factory farming, 2) animal fighting and other forms of animal cruelty, 3) the fur trade, and 4) inhumane sport hunting practices."

1. Without factory farming, we'd all be paying huge amounts for our animal protein.
2. Animal fighting such as cock and dog, is already illegal in the U.S.
I suspect they don't think much of rodeo either.
3. There is nothing wrong with the fur trade, in fact, we have way too many fur bearing animals running amok.
4. They consider any "sport" hunting to be inhumane, even if the animal is used for food. They've proven this through their actions.

Pretty much with ya there- whatever implement, I won't take a shot unless I know for sure what I'm shooting at, and why, and know I've lined up a kill shot. I don't wanna hurt - and hafta blood-track - anything; if I nail it, its down and dead, quickly. All I take are meat critters and varmints.

Don't notice any meat critters on these threads, but now and again a varmint pokes its head up.

Animals like mink and sable are farm raised mostly. Im not aware of fur bearers running "amok", could you be so kind.

Im a gun owner (actually multiple guns), but I think that NRA serves really no purpose. It "stands" for things in a mostly passive way that youve elucidated. They are against gun crimes by enforcing existing laws. Why isnt NRA , doing anything more? Is it because they are in the pocket of manufacturers , ammo guys , and gun related crap peddlers?
So to protest HSUS because they are actively against some of the above illegal activities (I dont think that they are against hunting, I think you stretch credulity on that one). HSUS , takes a more active stand than NRA in protection of life and limb, dont you think?

Name one piece of action NRA has done besides being obstructionist to gun control?

HSUS tries to eliminate our hunting rights.

The NRA, and particularly Ted Nugent, support our hunting rights.

The HSUS now combined with the Fund for Animals is now the greatest threat to our hunting traditions.

Vote for Ted. 'nuff said.

You purposely smudge the point. NRA does bothing to reeduce gun crime. They make it difficult for meaningful gun legislation to be proposed. I will never own a machine gun, but according to NRA, owning a street sweeper and a machine pistol is within our 2nd Amendment rights,

Nugents a jerk off.

who made his millions peddling hunting ****. Hunting, outside of aboriginal sustinance, is a HOBBY. It should have no special place in religion any more than does model railroading. Im afraid that cj, youve made hunting a religion. Get over it.
Hunters need to be scrutinized and one major infraction, BAM, no more hunting for you bunky. Youre irresponsible.

Since my cat got shot, Ive done some serious reading about how much the PA hunter is subsidized. All the fees and tags and taxes on ammo etc , dont nearly cover the GAme Commission, and the bloated bureaucracy that is The PGC and the Fish n Boat Commission as well.
Im going to be more active in seeing how well my tax dollar is spent.

Maybe we should adopt a "gamekeeper" role in the US . It has worked in the UK even though theirs is a tiny piece of land compared to ours, but if suburban deer are the only reason to keep hunting alive and the hunters get more and more impolite, well, then maybe we need to look at other alternatives.

Huntings neither a right nor a religion.

Religion? Huh? I'm merely a proponent. Without people like me, hunting would surely die out.

Bob Munger, Fred's best hunting buddy, called my Dad the day in 1988 when Fred passed...
