Dinner last night was not very good really. Starter was ok. Steak was over cooked and the "baby pineapple" turned out to be just the middle bit of the pineapple which was rock hard and pretty much inedible! Still, couldn't really complain as I wasn't paying for it.

Hope you had a great time though, Dorothy.

As far as post-Thanksgiving diets are concerned, I bet I speak for many in that the tradtional Thanksgiving meal is one of the most nutritious you will eat all year long. Just watch out for the pies and sweets and you'll be fine. Many of us also have problems with fresh roasted turkey - it kills my upper digestive track, so I can't eat much of it.

Also, as far as the "frugal" thing goes, Thanksgiving dinner in the U.S. is really pretty cheap. Turkeys are always on sale or buy one get one free (you donate the second to charity), and the traditional sides are about as frugal as it gets. It probably costs as much in energy to cook and clean up the mess as it does to purchase the ingredients.

Friday we ate leftovers. Saturday we didn't eat much during the day and went out for Italian for dinner. Sunday we again had a light breakfast and skipped lunch, then had baked chicken, risotto made with turkey broth, and broccoli for dinner.

Today I'm having leftover fettucini alfredo for lunch.

For you maybe, Dot.
But I'm definitely in need of it after a long, nasty winter. A few less pounds under my summer clothes would be wonderful! Very Happy

The last of the Thansgiving turkey was devoured last night. Dunno what I'll have tonight, maybe some mushroom, potato and leek soup.

I'll finish up the soup (roasted veggies including garlic/cabbage/pinto beans (ooooh, fart city)/diced tomatoes/anaheim chiles/hot italian sausag/snips of linguini).

My cook did not turn up yesterday - she was not feeling well (she is pregnant). So a friend of mine (where she cooks as well) and me went out to a fine indian joint

Potato Kulcha
Garlic Nan
Paneer Makhani
Daal Tarka
Dum aaloo

all washed down with a fantastic bottle of Pinot Grigio !!

Last night? Pizza Marghuerita, green salad (caesar dressing), half a bottle of Moondarra Shiraz (Orrstyliun), whilst watching "Imagine being a Diva" on the box, which was all about the behind the scenes bits and pieces of several beautiful women who sing like angels.

Then watched the footie.

A big, fat, juicy mixed kebab, grabbed on the way home, from the fabulous Turkish place nearby. Then dessert (stewed plums & ice cream)at a friend's place later in the evening.

Ok so we did nothing on thanksgiving so yesterday we invided BBB and Osso and our dear teacher friend who lives next door over for dinner last night. We picked up a 10 lb turkey breast (bone-in) which we roasted, stuffed with granny smith apple quarters and orange wedges, corn bread with a can of creamed corn added, smashed potatos, gravy, yams, asparagus and a can of cranberry sauce with fresh cranberries added and a nice bottle of Cabernet.

the rest of the chicken/oxtail soup as an "appetizer" !
followed by panfried rainbow trout , horseradish sauce , mashed potatoe/carrot dish , side salad .
for afternoon tea we kept it simple : homemade pecan muffins , speculaas and a big pot of tea .
(btw i like my muffins hot , slathered with butter - they go down more easily  ).

You should have seen some of the hasty "creative" (?) efforts I've thrown together over the past week as I write reports, do the odd job application, then swelter in the heat over last few days. (Mama mia, it's been HOT!) You'd be less than impressed, trust me! Embarrassed
