I made swiss steak, and used sirloin instead of round because it was cheaper than round. It was so tender - almost too tender, but delicious.

haven't had pigtails for many years , but i can attest that they are good tasting .

So I suppose you've had dishes that include pig's head amongst the ingredients, too, hamburger?

I grew up in a European/Australian household & I well recall my mother's famous pig's head & veal "jelly" dish. It involved a much boiling down of the ingredients in a huge pot. I think there was quite a bit of garlic in there! Anyway, the end result was quite delicious (after all that work!). I've forgotten what the Ukrainian name for the dish was, I'm afraid. I do remember that that the ears were particularly crunchy & tasty. A treat!
That was years & years ago, when we were "new Australians".

... but my dinner tonight is not half as exotic!

Left-overs (including cooked cheese tortellini!) prepared in an "interesting" & quick way! The emphasis being on quick & easy! I won't go into the details. Too embarrassing by far! Laughing

I long for the end of my working week (on Thursday), so I can start eating as I like to, again!

Not at all bad, G!
Especially it she's a great cook!
That certainly beats eating out every night if you're too busy to cook yourself.

Does anyone have a good recipe for Pirogies (not sure of spelling). Used to buy them in Canada and can't get them in the UK. They are kind of like potato and onion dumplings and they are white. Think they are Polish.

Dorothy

My (Ukrainian) mother used to make them. (Yum!)
They looked a damn sight easier to make when she did them, I can tell you! They involve quite a bit of messing about & preparation & the blighters can come unstuck if they're not joined properly!

Have I turned you off?

If not, let me know & I'll find a recipe for you.

Yes I'm turned off - I hate cooking so anything that's not simple is bound to do my head in. I'll have to see if there's anywhere I can buy them in Manchester cos I'm craving them!

I'm staying with friends and often I get home first so I get to cook. Last night they had defrosted some ground turkey. Hmm. We had turkey meatballs earlier in the week... what to do....

So I made nachos, spiced turkey fried in a little oil, black beans, and cheese over fresh tortilla chips served with sour cream and salsa.

DP :
the best pirogies in eastern ontario are sold by the ladies at our polish church - they usually advertise a couple of times a year and they take orders .
any polish community/church near where you live ?
i saw on the BBC news that britain has many new immigrants coming from poland , but it looked that those young poles were more into fish and chips than pirogies .

For some obscure reason I had a major, major craving for brown rice tonight. Haven't eaten the stuff for years. And garlic. And silverbeet (swiss chard) so I made up a concoction using all of the above & a few other goodies. What LOTS of garlic! I needed, that! Very Happy

Hamburger,

yeah there has been an influx of polish in Manchester. There were Polish people living in my house before I moved in and I just had a big parcel delivered for one of them so I might make some blackmail demands. "Make me some pirogies and you can have your parcel" type thing...
