Tonight was my first attempt at congee (a sort of thick rice soup with greens thrown in to wilt at the last minute.) I was following the recipe of a good friend, whose married to a Vietnamese. This is as close to the Vietnamese version as she can get: First make the stock. Lots of water & 3 onions & a whole chicken. That done, remove the chicken & onions & add short grain rice till cooked. To serve, ladle the soup/rice mixture in a deep bowl & add a little shredded chicken & a heap of finely sliced greens (like cabbage- Chinese or other.) Very nice, soothing & filling .... but I have enough left over to feed 2 football teams! There are many different versions of congee from different countries. This is a very simple one. Easy!

I was a guest at Dys and Diane's... Dys made excellent tacos.

Maybe he'll see this and post the recipe.

Tonight we are having fresh whitefish from Lake Superior. Good stuff!

Over the weekend my son and I caught 14 brook trout between us, but all were too small to keep. Damn!

Thanks for the rissoles and Rosella information.

I would never have guessed what rissoles were. Well, I did try to guess - I thought they were some kind of potato or veggie patty.

I think I'd like Rosella sauce quite a lot. I'm a fan of prepared tomato stuff, more than most 'good' home-made tomato stuff. That's my form of food deviancy Confused

~~~~~~~~~~
tonight - scalloped potatoes with corn and leftover diced roast pork - I had mine with a variant of Rosella sauce and honey mustard. mmmmmm mustard
I suppose you are right though. I found the hard-boiled egg behind my dresser when my wallet fell there. As I pulled the dresser from the wall I spotted the egg. It was covered in dust and a small spider sat comfortably on top. The spider scrambled away when the light hit him and I picked the egg up, brushed away the dust, (I had removed the shell at an earlier date apparently) and popped that bad boy into my mouth.
There was an odor for sure, and the consistency of the egg was less than desirable, but the taste wasn't bad and the milk washed away the dust I had missed.
But, yes, maybe I should have vomited.
Perhaps I will do that now.
How did you know what gender the spider was?
Well, I'll admit to being odd. Or odd-ish.
You don't seem to understand that egg white wiggles...
I've gotten over spaghetti wiggling, and cream cheese being ooozey.
What is the question?
I cooked up a vegetable stew, a gruel of sorts- leek, eggplant,tomatoes, lemon, soy sauce,cheese. While it was really good, it caught my Slovak organism (used to meat and potatoes) off guard. In fact it's causing quite a storm. The night is young though. Sigh.
Looking good, G...and not wholly vegetarian!
If I stay at the same crappy (but cheap) hotel the next time I'm in London, I could easily walk to it - and roll home!
