@alex240101,
Alex, I used to like cream based soups but I've never made them myself. Once in a while, especially if there are bunches of mushrooms, I add half and half.

I have a link for what's in it.. it's just one more refrigerator-soup.

The chard is not to everyone's liking, in which case, spinach..

There's a restaurant in Venice, CA called Joe's. I've loved it from the time it opened. They have reasonable prices and excellent food, not to promote it, but I'll be upset if you are ever in the neighborhood and don't go there.

This is from memory so don't trust me, but they used to always serve a small salad - very small but delicious
a dish of good breads/tapenade/butter
a small soup - again, small, but wonderful
a main dish (I forget the list but always good)
and it would come to something like $10.00, coffee and wine extra.

I went there with a pal on my last trip to california and the place is still wonderful, prices still reasonable. I hesitate to post this, it'll just make them more crowded, when it is a good neighborhood place.

I bring this up for their soups. Not cream based, but rich, simple flavors, not that I know their recipes. But they tasted both rich and pure..

Another spaghetti marinara tonight.
What a lazy cook I am.
I think I'm going to have try to make a serious effort about this dinner-thing again, soon. Sigh.

I'd better go & cook it now, hadn't I?

double sigh from me !
cooking for one is the pits imo.

here is what i do :

after i make myself a SUBSTANTIAL hot breakfast with all the trimmings , i usually ( monday to friday ) head off to the seniors' centre where one gets a good lunch for $ 8 - NO TAX - NO TIPPING - and the 10th lunch is free .

let's see what i had today :
french canadian pea-and-ham soup ( salad is also available )
from the several main choices i selected baby beef liver with sweet onion gravy , cauliflower and chips ( mashed might have been better )
finally a cup of fresh fruit cocktail and a cup of coffee .

it would have taken me a few hours to come with anything like it - and a sinkful of dirty dishes would have been a reminder Shocked

and being able to sit with people and chat for an hour or two is a bonus .

btw. EVERYONE is welcome at the seniors' centre .

( now i just have have to decide on A FEW snacks for the rest of the day - banana , orange , yoghurt ... ... a sandwich if required )

btw. i'll be making my special meatloaf tonight - PROMISE ... ... )

@hamburgboy,
I know, I know, hamburger.

Especially when one is stretched for time. (Like I am at the moment.)

I am going to make a real effort again soon, I really must & I will!

That's a pretty good deal you have there from your seniors centre.

Perhaps I should check out my local RSL? Wink (Returned soldiers League) which provides inexpensive lunches for anyone, really, not just returned soldiers.

Anyway, dinner tonight: an omelet, perhaps. I think I can manage that! Smile

@dlowan,
I am tired.
Not so much kidded out (been filling in for an absent teacher most of last & all of this week) but rather schooled out. No time off. It ends tomorrow. Hooray! Very Happy Apart from that, my little local group has been in over-drive the last couple of weeks, planning for our big publicity event, this Sunday. On Sunday night I'll be a new person! Very Happy
I guess this means it'll be time to start cooking & eating properly again?

This dish is Beers friend. Ales and Lagers too.

In a slow cooker combine, one block of velvetta, two cans of Ro-tel (tomato and seasonings),

and one pound of cooked ground meat, or sausage.

It is my first time putting this together. Friend states: "you can't stop eating it"

@alex240101,
It was okay, nothing to write home about. The velvetta was salty.

@alex240101,
Looks like we are the only ones eating buddy. You look good today.

Corn beef and cabbage is not my preference.
I will eat this though.

@Rockhead,
last night - roast chicken that had been marinated in Newman's own sesame-ginger dressing - sorta homemade mac'n'cheese on the side - had an enormous salad at lunch - couldn't face more greens

Husband has corned beef cooking in a large pot, to which he plans to add cabbage, potatoes, carrots and onion, and it does smell good. But, I've never had any corned beef in Texas that's not tough, fatty, almost a joke. We'll see.

@alex240101,
That looks yummy Alex. I love a good Ruben Sandwich. I also love that Rotel cheese dip. That's what we call it anyway...I always use sausage. I really could make that supper all by itself some nights. Also this layer dip my mom makes. Layer refried beans, then guacamole (smushed up avacado's with taco seaonings), then sour cream, then lettuce, then tomatoes, then black olives, then shredded cheese...bag of Frito's. Oh my goodness.

We are having Chicken Marsala tonight. I cannot wait. Salad (as usual) on the side. Tomato, avacado, feta and a honey mustard vinegrette. I have butter garlic texas toast that I am toasting and cutting up into mega croutons. Eating early. Exercising twice (AM and PM). I am NOT kidding.
