Hi

I am looking for websites that have a listing of english proverbs along with their meanings.

I tried Google and Alexa. All I got was Igloo proverbs (what?), African proverbs and english translations of german proverbs etc and etc. There were some sites that did have a good list of english proverbs but no meanings.

Are there any sites in your knowledge that list english proverbs along with their meanings. Sort of dictionary of proverbs, I mean.

Thanks for reading

Web resources for English proverbs.
I tried, too, but couldn't find anything. I did find references to print books, including the Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs (authoritative) and the QPB Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins (occasionally casual). Both are interesting and fun, but neither of these has a website devoted to their contents.

Have you asked your local public library reference desk?

Yes, that's a fun site, but neither my response nor this one gives the meanings of proverbs online. So spidergal still isn't any better off.

And I dunno - I suggested the local public library but I don't know anything about library systems near the Ganges, so that may or may not have been any help. . .

However, There's some good news. I tried Yahoo this time. I have just found a link that has a comprehensive list of proverbs.
