There is this word that has been bothering me for a couple of days. It sounds like anti-disinstablishment-tarism. I know its not spelled like that, but im pretty sure that is how its sounds.I tried dictionary.com and my dictionary but no luck. Anyone know what word im talking about?

too bad
Ok, so i went to dictionary.com and looked it up and guess what happens when you try and look up antidisestablishmentarianism?

The word is only part of their "Premium Members" special millinium dictionary account thingy. So you have to be in a club to get info on the cool words? Weird.

It's basically just a bunch of prefixes and suffixes.

anti
dis
establish
ment
arian
ism

So you can just piece it together from that. It's pretty much a stunt word -- "ooh, look how long I am!"

Yeah, i guess it is just a stunt word. Ok, lets see if i can figure out the definition.

anti - against or opposite
dis - seperation
establishment - order or group
arian - I'm not too sure
ism - added to the end of stuff to make it a theory or whatever, so im guessing arianism is some sort of theory

Put everthing together: the theory of the opposition of what ever arianism is of being seperated?

How close am I to the meaning?

Here's almost all of it:

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=disestablishmentarians

So just reverse that ("anti-") and make it a way of thinking/ credo instead of the people who practice it. That makes it:

The opposition to those who oppose an established order.

Found this, too:

Oh, just saw your guess. Looks good. (I dunno if -arian is a proper suffix.)

I understand it now. Thanks. And I guess I also learned today that the online Merriam-Webster dictionary can be a good way to find those blocked dictionary.com words.

Well, they didn't have the whole thing, just up to "dis..." (I tried "anti...", nothin', I checked in my actual dictionary, nope, I checked for "dis...", yep, plugged that one in, that worked.)

I generally like M-W best of the free online dictionaries.
