Within the White House there is a conferences room that is called the "situation room". It is one of the few rooms that are equipped with adequate displays and communications equipment to allow for high level classified breifings that involve more than 20 or so people.

It's called the "situation room" because that is where the President and all of their advisors usually meet whenever a "situation" develops.

You can probably easily check this using Amazon.com. Two weeks ago I had about 2,000 problems of this nature (and I'm not a novice, the book is my number 9). If I could find these answers in dictionaries or by googling, I wouldn't bother you. But often even if I see 100 sentences with an idiom without a single definition, the sentences don' help.
