If criminals are willing to ignore the laws against robbery;
if criminals are willing to disregard the laws against murder,
how can we convince them to obey "gun control " laws ?

What you are in essence asking is if criminals ignore laws how, can laws be perceived as a deterrent to the criminal.

The answer is that such laws, under the conditions specified, will not be perceived by the criminal as a deterrent, but as an obstacle to overcome.

Which then leads to number of variables:

a) Decriminalize the act in question
b) Remove the environment for the act to take place
c) Condition the criminal not to act illegally
d) Place the criminal in an environment where his once harmful actions produce benefit
e) Remove the criminal from the environment

I welcome you back at A2k, OmSigDavid, haven't seen you in a while. (You and I don't agree on much.) I hope you will consider modifying your questions by not making them all in bold. That is considered shouting on web forums, and a lot of people won't even look at a question when it is posed in bold. It gets dismissed as a rant, which it may or may not be, but isn't all that useful for discussion.

I know that fully capitalizing is deemed shouting.

I only meant to facilitate reading it,
and to emphasize particular parts of it,
as one wud raise, drop, and intone his voice, if speaking.

Occasionally, people with visual limitations have thanked me for it.

Thanx for the welcome !
David

One question is if and/or when a caught criminal is given the option of behavioral modification a la A ClockWork Orange / George Orwell (hopefully more humanely and efficiently) how things might (euphemistically if nothing else) progress.

I advocate BANISHMENT for feloniously violent recidivists.
