Yep, I've been involved in many a May Day march here in Melbourne, though for some reason haven't participated for a few years now. Tomorrow, my friend W & I have planned to march again, though it's predicted to be a thoroughly miserable day ... rain, hail & wind! Hmmmm ...
It's no longer a solely union affair here. Lots of different political groups participate. Chileans, Greeks (& many other left ethnic groups) Greens, peace groups, social justice organizations, etc, etc .... It's quite a clourful affair - music, chanting & ethnic dancing ... We meet around the Trades Hall Council headquarters in Carlton & march through the city centre.
The focus this year is fighting the (Liberal) government's IR reforms. Tough times.
To me, May day simply means a whole week of holiday
(Thanks, nimh. :-) I love this old resurrected stuff, something vague comes to mind and there's me-minus-three-years saying it...)
A teacher in grade school walked the class outside, and had us dancing about a May pole. Aside from that, nothing.
