nimh, I thought I saw in today's newspaper that Obama was a little ahead of Hillary after she had a two-digit lead not that long ago.

In Pennsylvania? Maybe the article was about that PPP poll (top of my list), or an earlier PPP poll of 1 April. Those are the only polls ever to have shown Obama ahead in PA. Wouldnt give them too much credence, considering the mass of polls saying otherwise.

Remember Obama's explanation of why he didn't wear a flag pin?

Well lookie lookie here what Obama had on his lapel today: a flag pin. He was addressing a disabled veterans group or something like that at the time, but it will be interesting to see if it is still there for tonight's debate.

Yes of course, I'm sure he will; observers and commentators who have no substance to gab about need "issues." So, foxfyre, McCain's gas tax vacation, good idea or just pandering? I'm sure your understanding of economics is on par with McCain's so you can explain it to us liberal democrats.

See, nimrod, the thing is (that you don't get), is that it's not a big deal when he DOESN'T wear one, and it's not a big deal when he DOES. It was nincompoops on the right who made a stink about it in the first place, as if lapel ornaments bespeak some deep truths about one's real level of allegiance to the country or something.

And it is exactly those nincompoops who she posted it for.

I expect Okie or Real Life to come along anytime now and rant on and on about it for the next five pages.

From kicky's list: -Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.

What a grand idea; give tax breaks to the poor! He knows who needs more money to feed their families, keep their homes, and pay for the higher cost of fuel.

EIC is not a 'tax break'.

It is money given to those who paid no taxes.

If you look back at the WaPo/ABC poll, Hillary has accomplished nothing but to raise Obama's negatives and her own. Still, when Obama goes head to head against Gramps,he will obliterate him.

WTF does this have to with his potential performance as CIC? Obama was handed a flag pin and he was gracious enoguh to wear it. If he had refused to put it on, you s*** f***s would be accusing him of being a traitor.

Get a grip!

$4/gallon gasoline, billions being pissed away in Iraq and these people are worried about flag f***ing pins?

Dear Friends and Fans:

LIke most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest.

He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President.

I used to like The BOSS until I saw him live that is... not very good.

As for Obama, what has he done prior to running for president?

LOL you are a rock critic now? Springsteen and the E street band are considered on of the best live rock acts in all time, THE BEST by many critics.

I saw him perform with just an acoustic guitar and he was great. Too bad I never heard him with the E street band back in the day. They kick serious ass!

My rants are extremely miniscule, compared to the wild eyed shouting, foaming at the mouth, sermons by Obama's rev. And at least mine make sense, and are not made up and based on fictitious imaginations. Not to speak for Real Life, but his are also based in reality, which would be a shock I am sure to any Wright or Obama supporter.

This could have gone on the Hillary thread or on the "bitter"-specific thread, but seems like most of the discussion about "bitter" has been here.

Have you guys seen this yet?

Quote:
'SCREW 'EM' VS. 'BITTER'

From NBC's Mark Murray
The Huffington Post, which broke the original story about Obama saying that people from small towns like Pennsylvania are often bitter and cling to guns and God, has published a new article.

Per the piece by Sam Stein: "In January 1995, as the Clintons were licking their wounds from the 1994 congressional elections, a debate emerged at a retreat at Camp David. Should the administration make overtures to working class white southerners who had all but forsaken the Democratic Party? The then-first lady took a less than inclusive approach. 'Screw 'em,' she told her husband. 'You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them.'"

"The statement -- which author Benjamin Barber witnessed and wrote about in his book, 'The Truth of Power: Intellectual Affairs in the Clinton White House' -- was prompted by another speaker raising the difficulties of reaching 'Reagan Democrats.' It stands in stark contrast to the attitude the New York Democrat has recently taken on the campaign trail, in which she has presented herself as the one candidate who understands the working-class needs."

First Read just got off the phone with Barber, who confirmed the "screw-em" remark but wanted to add some context:
-- He pointed out that everyone in that room back in '95 was angry -- about the Republicans taking over Congress. The only person who wasn't angry was Bill, who (as the HuffPo piece also explains) talked about the importance of reaching out to white southerners.
-- He noted that the Hillary from '94-'95 was a MUCH different person from the Hillary in Bill's second term. She had moved from ideological liberal to a pragmatic leader. He says his 2001 book, in fact, has a chapter on this transformation.
-- He is a Hillary Clinton supporter and has given Clinton money.
