Got up on the wrong side of the bed, eh? You've fallen to george's level. Just because I don't like the way chain stores run their businesses is no reason to be in a snit. The truth has to hurt is what my Dad might say to you.

You never use such gentle language. CI is in a snit over the fact that I've told some truths and some well documented facts about labor in general and retail in particular. You are a bully by nature. You can accept game player as a substitute.

I've avoided saying anything for a long time now, Pom, but you're acting like a real ass lately. You ought to take a step back and examine what the purpose of the conversation in this thread is, and compare that to the devolution we've witnessed over the last several weeks.

LIBERALS
Leftist liberals seek to secure their right to steal wealth others earn.

Rightist liberals seek to secure their right to retain wealth they earn.

Leftist Liberals think legitimizing the stealing of wealth others earn will lead to equalization of wealth and the elimination of hateful behavior. Actually neither will be achieved. Those in the government minority performing the redistribution of wealth will be the ones growing wealthier and more powerful, while their victims, the majority, as well as their beneficiaries will gradually grow poorer and less powerful.

Rightist Liberals think that laws that violate the Constitution must be repealed in order to rescue and renew America. Laws that violate the Constitution serve only to increase the power of government over the power of the people.

"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

America began its corruption when its Congress, its presidents, and its courts began to redistribute wealth. It increased its rate of corruption when it deemed the Constitution of the USA a "Living Constitution" (i.e., changeable by opinion instead of by its Article V amendment process). More recently it has accelerated its rate of corruption by deeming the Constiitution an "Obsolete Constitution" (i.e., no longer valid).

She gives us an entirely new slant on the "amazing" job Obama is doing, and she says that she will thank God for the President. Keep reading for her additional comments and an explanation.

> 3. Obama is destroying the Democratic Party before our eyes! Dennis Moore had never lost a race. Evan Bayh had never lost a race. Byron Dorgan had never lost a race. Harry Reid - soon to be GONE! These are just a handful of the Democrats whose political careers Obama has destroyed. By the end of 2010, dozens more will be gone. Just think, in December of 2008 the Democrats were on the rise. In the last two election cycles, they had picked up 14 Senate seats and 52 House seats. The press was touting the death of the Conservative Movement and the Republican Party. However, in just one year, Obama put a stop to all of this and will probably give the House - if not the Senate - back to the Republicans.

According to a recent media report, all levels of government unions are spending big bucks to support democratic candidates. I wonder how much good it'll do this late in the game? Most have already made up their minds on who they'll be voting for.

How nice! You're whatever you want to be at anytime.

Yes--but "most" are pretty evenly divided and those who haven't made up their minds yet, which way to vote or whether or not to vote, are the real battleground. The Dems won in 2008 with large support from women and from young voters. Polls are saying that those groups are less likely to vote this time than they were then.

Anybody who wants small government and less government intrusion has to be in favour of a deadlocked and paralyzed administration and should vote tactically.

@cicerone imposter,
Labor unions are also exempt from some of the contribution reporting requirements that apply to corporations.

They are also canvassing their members who must either assure their union bosses they will vote as instructed or face uncertain retribution. Easy enough to lie I suppose, but a near universal practice among them that is contrary to the clear values of our democracy (a corporation that tried this would find itself very quickly in court on criminal charges).

Rising Welfare Costs

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released Congressional testimony last week looking at Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). TANF, which replaced unrestricted welfare in 1996, has reduced welfare rolls and encouraged recipients to obtain work. Unfortunately, TANF's goals have been undermined, says Tad DeHaven, a budget analyst with the Cato Institute.

The GAO notes that "work participation rates...do not appear to be achieving the intended purpose of encouraging states to engage specified proportions of TANF adults in work activities."

States are required to have at least 50 percent of eligible TANF recipients from single parent families participating in work activities.

However, states are given various credits and exemptions that significantly reduce the number of recipients required to work.

As a result, only about 30 percent of TANF recipients engage in "work activities," which is often liberally defined.

Moreover, while TANF has successfully reduced the budgetary cost of cash welfare, overall federal spending on antipoverty programs has increased dramatically -- 89 percent over the present decade, after adjusting for inflation.

With so many Americans currently in need of assistance, now is actually a good time to discuss the role of government in taking care of the less fortunate, says DeHaven.

Not after the Citizens' United decision. The Chamber of Commerce is now effectively an unlimited slush fund for Republican party elections, that Corporations can donate as much as they wish to - without EVER reporting it.

There are plenty of stories of corporations and those who run them pressuring employees to give money to a certain cause or vote a certain way.

How can that be true when it's the Obama Democrats that
receive the highest amount of unreported foreign monies?

@Cycloptichorn,
You are merely refusing to recognize realities that don't favor your position. I have lots of direct experience observing the day-to-day behavior of a fairly broad spectrum of Labor Unions, including both the metal trades and the building trades, as well as Teamsters and the SEIU.

Contributions by the Unions were never restricted by the act in question. The recent court decisions merely put corporations and employers on the same footing as the organized labor organizations that exploit employees, employers and the public.

No, they are now on a GREATLY DIFFERENT footing. Unions have SOME reporting requirements for how their monies are spent and where the monies come from; the CoC has NONE at all. Surely you realize that None and Some are unequal statuses?

@Cycloptichorn,
Totay's WSJ has an article which cited the reported political contributions of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Carl Rove's American Crossroads Organization - to the Republicans; and those of the government employees' Union(AFSCME), the SEIU and the NEA - to the Democrats. They were in order;

$75 million & $65 million to the Republicans - $140 million total

$87.5 million, $44 million, and $40 million to the Democrats - $171.5 million total.
