@slkshock7,
Quote:Sure she can do it.... Yes, she's misspoken (and been misinterpreted) and the left has and will continue to make hay of those gaffes. But so has Obama, Biden, and every other politician that's out there. Difference right now is that her polls are going up, while pretty much every other politician on the national scene is watching theirs go down.
Her polls are going up because she's on a book tour media spree. She's not currently active in politics so it's easy to see why people would have a more favorable view of her. Also, she's getting off the bus with her Downs Syndrome baby in her arms. A very impressive performance.
Quote:At this point, it wouldn't seem that she needs to do anything, her polls are going in the right direction and momentum is building anyway. Of course remains to be seen if they keep moving upward...but foregoing any major gaffe or new scandal, she's on the right path. The mood of the country is changing rapidly against the Dems. If Obama can't turn things around she will be able to take a page from his book in 2012 i.e., lean heavily on her right-leaning base and ride to the presidency on a wave of discontent from those in the center.
I agree, her current tour keeps her visible and for now it's enough. I don't agree with you that she'll be able to do it on momentum alone. The only way she'll be able to win the presidency is if she tones down the maverick thing and starts to be more disciplined in her approach. That means reaching out beyond the hard-core base and swaying the more moderate Republicans and conservative Democrats. She's shown no sign of wanting to do that, yet.
I don't get a sense she's too curious about much beyond her world. Bush Junior set the standard for this, so in this sense, I guess a president no longer has to be well-rounded to get elected.
If she wins the presidency, whether it's in 2012 or another time, it will be the Democrats fault, I agree with you there.
