Obama loves the tactic of making up a deadline, a very near term deadline, and demanding that agreement be reached by his deadline. Not only has he done this with bailout bills and the health care reform legislation, but he also did it with both the Chrysler and GM Bankruptcies. Democracy is about debate, and mutual agreement on what action to take. Obama forcing a timetable the precludes full debate, that does not give the holders of minority views a chance to fight for what they believe in, is a travesty in a proclaimed democracy.

I couldn't agree more. The fear-mongering the Obama and this Congress are doing to push these massively expensive and powerful bills through the voting process is DISGUSTING and all voters should be ashamed of our government for doing so.

Not as idiotic as you might think.

I did not elaborate on universal happiness yet. There are many issues here to be dealt with. Barack Obama just today or yesterday mentioned one, slavery, which must be dealt with. We are not adequately teaching how slavery was so much like the Holocaust, and we need to shed this from our collective conscience, ci. Undoubtedly, your ancestors and mine very likely were involved with slavery in the past, if not in this country, probably certainly somewhere. This is probably causing us to have an unhappiness that we cannot explain.

As a country, we must confront our past sins, that of greed, slavery, the rich taking from the poor, the advantaged from the disadvantaged. From the way you have talked, you are apparently a very rich guy, and this carries with it a tremendous emotional burden that prevents your happiness. That may explain why you are constantly berating other people on this forum.

Universal Happiness. We need a czar. We need legislation, all encompassing, to reform education and everything else in our lives, to cleanse us from our past sins. It should be on Obama's desk by the end of July. We cannot afford to waste any more time and see people's lives wasted any longer, to live in sadness and guilt.

@okie,
By the way, if you don't believe what I just said, I suggest you go talk to the Reverend Wright, and he would probably confirm what I just said, plus alot more elaboration and explanation. And I am sure he and Obama have talked about this. This could explain why Obama went to Ghana and checked out the slave places, to begin a dialogue about this, to attempt to start healing America in a way that only Obama can do. He brings both white and black together, he is a uniter. He recognizes the collective guilt we have been carrying for way too long, and he dares to try to fix it. That is why America is so behind the world in so many ways, living as a country that has taken advantage, and we have tried to tell the world what to do. But now we must fix ourselves first, we must repent, and start the healing process.

@okie,
What "collective guilt" are you talking about? I wasn't born during slavery in the US. I don't blame myself for things that are out of my personal control. I don't blame myself for the holocaust either. That may seem cold to you, but I had nothing to do with the holocaust. My life started in 1936, and most of it has been pretty darn good!

Tell Obama that. Obama wants to teach all of our children more about this, and if you would listen to his mentor, the Reverend Wright, you would understand the reasons, which includes being able to "confront" our past sins. That includes yours, ci. Even though you did not have slaves, you have lived with the terrible shadow of our heritage hanging over you. And if you had an ounce of decency, you would realize all the money you have now is due to the unfairness and collective oppression that you have been a part of in this country.

@okie,
Its called the audacity of hope, ci. Obama has the audacity to confront our collective guilt, and that includes yours, ci. How in the world do you think you were able to make all that money and live so easily, while others are suffering? Without universal health care, without universal housing, without universal food and nutrition, without universal clothing provisions, without universal happiness, how, ci? How could you have lived in such ignorance all of your life?

And what is your problem?
Do you think that slavery isn't a terrible part of the United States' history and shouldn't be taught in schools?

Did you see the interview already, okie? As far as I could find out, it will be aired today, at 10 p.m. ET.

@Walter Hinteler,
Undoubtedly, you have had to confront your sad history, Walter, and you are probably still carrying around guilt from the days of Adolf Hitler and the mass murder of millions of Jews and other various citizens. I hope your educational system has reminded you of this, and I hope your possible children or grandchildren also have learned all of this very well, about their guilt as well. Until you confront this, and get over it, you can never be a whole person.

@okie,
okie, You are so damn ignorant, I wonder where you were educated. Our country, the good ole USA, have also committed atrocities - not only in foreign lands, but in our country. Do you suffer from guilt from our involvement of killing hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children?

Think, before you spew your ignorance.

You've got to be kidding me!

The Obamanomic stimulus plan has failed and now they want us to trust them with socializing health care.

Americans are the fools if they allow Obama and the congress to continue down this path.

Here's yet another example of the "no" party at work.

Quote:

Republicans fight Obama Supreme Court choice
Reuters

By Andrew Quinn Andrew Quinn " 1 hr 5 mins ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) " Republican lawmakers pressed an attack against Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor on Monday, fighting an uphill battle to derail her nomination by President Barack Obama as the first Hispanic justice on the top U.S. court.

Sotomayor, 55, was widely expected to win confirmation on the ideologically-divided nine-member court which rules on key Constitutional issues, which could include the death penalty, abortion and gun rights.

Republicans have all but conceded they lack the votes to stop the Democratic-run Senate from approving Sotomayor to the life-time post. Many on both sides of the aisle agree she has outstanding legal qualifications.

"Unless you have a complete meltdown, you're going to get confirmed," Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told Sotomayor as the Senate Judiciary Committee began several days of hearings.

But Republican leaders nevertheless launched a sharp political attack on her record, hoping to highlight what they say are Obama's plans to use the Supreme Court to drive social change.

"I believe our legal system is at a dangerous crossroads," said Senator Jeff Sessions, the top ranking Republican on the committee.

"Down one path is the traditional American legal system, so admired around the world, where judges impartially apply the law to the facts without regard to their own personal views.

"Down the other path lies a Brave New World where words have no true meaning and judges are free to decide what facts they choose to see. In this world, a judge is free to push his or her own political and social agenda."

A SUCCESS STORY

The Democrats who control the Senate said Sotomayor -- the daughter of Puerto Rican parents who grew up in a New York housing project -- embodies a "success story in which all Americans can take pride."

"She is a judge in which all Americans can have confidence. She has been a judge for all Americans and will be a Justice for all Americans," said the committee's chair, Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy.

Other Democrats rallied to her defense, highlighting her experience and rejecting repeated Republican assertions that she might use a Supreme Court seat as a "judicial activist" who overrides laws in favor of political policy.

Even the republican members of the committee that will vote "no" on Sotomayor misses the whole point about "she's not the major influence of the supreme court." It takes a majority to approve anything done by the supremes. It's another conservative "fear" tactic that will not work.
