@JTT,
If I had to guess, he came into it when he discovered that Senator? Burris of Illinois was being investigated in the Illinois Senate for possible perjury and might have to face a US Senate hearing on the same charges. Okie, I am sure, would not refrain from making a bet that Coleman will be found not guilty.

Burris, a friend of the impeached Illinois ex-governor(both of these sleaze bags were backed by Obama when he was a Senator in Illinois) has been the target of both of the Chicago Newsdailies--The powerful Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times. Both papers have demanded Burris's resignation.

As an Illinois resident, I am amazed that there is a miracle right here in our state. Burris--Blagojevitch--corrupt Dems. Ryan-corrupt Republican
And the sainted Obama, who despite the fact that it was raining political **** for the six years he was in office in Illinois, came out smelling like a rose.

And,the most startling fact is that he NEVER KNEW about any of the political corruption in Illinois,so, of course, how could he report any of it!

@mysteryman,
Yes. Mysteryman--Now that Obama is going to send an additional 21,000 troops to Afghanistan( at what cost? Millions?? Billions??),he will be attacked as ahypocrite. Last week, residents of Western part of Pakistan close to Afghanistan, indicated that some CHILDREN(gasp) had been killed by a US drone. Now, of course, a great deal of the propaganda garbage in the past and in the future will blame the US for killing ONLY children when they are looking for the leaders of the fanatical fringe Muslims loyal to Bin Laden, but if even ONE CHILD is killed, according toJTT's calculus, Obama is no better than Bush--No better even worse, because Obama promised an end to troops in Iraq and an early withdrawal from Afghanistan. Some of our military leaders have predicted that we will be in Afghanistan for at least five more years>

I wonder what the Peaceniks in Obama's camp think about that?

@sozobe,
From sozobe's opening assessment of Obama more than 1000 pages ago:

sozobe wrote:

Inexperience: This is the one that has changed the most since Obama first came up. I, personally, like to have a leader with a lot of experience. But things I've read here and that I've seen in general seem to be indicating that the zeitgeist is more towards "FRESH START." Get rid of the lying liars, the politicos, the fat cats. Get a breath of fresh air in there, someone with integrity and enthusiasm. Obama has that, in spades.

Now we have fresh liars, politicos, fat cats, and socialists on top of that, bent on running the country into the ground.

Just a minute of web search turned this up. Franken is apparently another tax cheat: This is no surprise, given Franken's character, or the lack thereof.

Al Franken Admits $50,000 Tax Debt

"Overlooked in coverage of Tim Geithner’s and Tom Daschle’s unpaid taxes is the $70,000 that Minnesota Democratic senatorial candidate Al Franken has admitted to owing in back taxes, interest, and penalties.

Last April, the California Tax Franchise Board revealed that Franken owed the state $5,800 in taxes, fines, and penalties because he did not file returns in 2003 through 2007. Franken then admitted that he owed more than $50,000 in back taxes to 17 states. "

@okie,
Okie- You appear to be well read-Perhaps you can help. I am looking for any articles or essays which explain why the Dow Jones is at such a low point>

I can,of course, quote from many left wing sources to show that the coming of the Messiah-Obama,would bring manna to all--that "change" would bring security and peace after the horrendous deficits and war mongering of the last president. I have read that Obama had such charisma and such talent that the citizens of the USA would be heartened and lifted up by his succession to the presidency.

But, I can't find out why his massive stimulus plan and his large infusion of money to help the housing market has met with a PLUNGE in the Stock Market>

I fear for the Presidency of B.H.Obama. When the MILLIONS of ORDINARY CITIZENS open their 401 K's after the first quarter and find that their holdings have gone down even further, despite the fact that the Messiah promised to lead them out of the financial desert, it doesn't look good for the left wing Democrats in the elections of Nov. 2001.

I can say one thing without fear of contradiction--Roland Burris will not be re-elected Senator of Illinois in 2010 especially since both major Chicago Newspapers have urged that he resign.

You might want to point out that Franken won his election after this information was well-known and publicized by his opponent. It seems the people of MN don't have a problem with the situation.

@okie,
Okie- Thanks for the heads up on Franken(stein?) I would bet that he or his family changed the name sometime in the past.

You may note that Cyclops says that the people of Minnesota dont seem to mind. Cyclops is either ignorant or does not want you to know that Franken(stein?) was not the choice of the majority of Minnesota's citizens.

Note:

Minnesota Senate Race Results
Republican incumbent Norm Coleman faced comedian and commentator Al Franken in Minnesota's 2008 Senate race. Franken and Coleman were tied with 42 percent of the vote each, with 221 votes separating the two candidates. Coleman was declared the winner, but a recount of votes began in mid-November. On January 1, 2009, the count showed Franken leading Coleman by a mere 48 votes.1 2 On January 4, 2009, Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie announced that the Minnesota state election board would pronounce Franken as the winner by a margin of 225 votes on the following day. On January 6, 2009, Coleman said he had filed a lawsuit challenging the recount.3 Coleman's campaign planned to challenge the decision based on absentee ballots they say were wrongly rejected.4

end of quote--

You will note,Okie, that Franken( stein?) received only 42 % of the vote as did Coleman, since 18% of Minnesota voters voted for other candidates.

Franken( stein?) did almost as poorly as Slick Willie did in 1992 when he received only 43% of the vote because Ross Perot took 19% as a nuisance candidate. I can predict with assurance that when Franken( stein?) reaches the end of his term, he will be ousted by the people of Minnesota who will wonder--My God, what have we done? We elected a clown to the Senate>

I have a problem with this...seriously WHAT THE HELL man?

I for one, do think that taxes should be raised. I'm sick of our government running a deficit.

WTF is up with these rich assholes not paying their taxes?

Over the years, I have noticed something very interesting. When people talk about raising taxes, they speak of raising it from the asses of OTHER people, like you have, maporche. What are YOU willing to kick in?

@Phoenix32890,
Sure Phoenix...my family makes 125k / year. I never said raise 'rich people's taxes', raise taxes for EVERYONE until we have enough money to pay for what we've voted for.

I'm pissed that over half the country doesn't pay any income tax.

I'm pissed that people are getting income tax refunds, when they don't pay any income tax.

I'm pissed that Warren Buffet pays a lower tax % than his cleaning lady.

I have a problem with people wanting the government to provide all that it provides but they aren't actually willing to pay for it.

We need to stop running a budget deficit ASAP.

I definitely agree with that. I can't understand why some people work their asses off, and have to pay taxes for benefits that go to people who do nothing but collect "entitlements", (you should pardon the expression!)
IMO, we are a rich country that is duty bound to provide for the most vulnerable..............the severely disabled, the people who are caught in a dire situation not of their own making (fire, flood, etc.). As far as the hanger oners, there are private charities and religious groups that work for the benefit of those people. I don't think that taxpayers should be obliged to pay for those who don't pull their weight.

@maporsche,
You are quite right, maporsche. I would be willing, as you are, to pay a 10% higher tax than I am paying now IF THE LAZY SCUMBAGS WHO ARE GETTING INCOME TAX REFUNDS WOULD ALSO PAY HIGHER TAXES.

The Warren Buffet problem could also be solved by legislation, Maporsche, but do you really think that the fat cats( Rham Emanuel( former investment banker who made millions)..Robert E. Rubin, former Secretary of State for Clinton, who made millions as an investment banker....would go along with such legislation?

Again,I would gladly pay a higher tax rate rather than have my tax dollars go to the unproductive and the unwilling.

No I dont.

I also don't think that any republicans would either though genoves.

I think our government and the ultra-rich just enjoy sticking it to the masses, don't you?

@Phoenix32890,
Do y0u have any kind of data which would tell us how many people would fall under the category you mentioned?--Namely, the most vulnerable!!! It is clear to me that any0ne who had not paid any income taxes--that would be fifty or sixty million people--would be getting a REFUND. I am CERTAIN that no one could seriously make a list of the "most vulnerable" which would get anywhere near even 20% of the fifty or sixty million I mentioned.

Now, Pheonix 32890. if you are really talking about REDISTRIBUTION OF ASSETS--a la Socialistic way--then that is a different story.
Maporsche is right--Let's raise taxes on everyone!!!

@maporsche,
I disagree, Maporsche. You indicated that our government and the ultra-rich just enjoy sticking it to the masses.

How could our government be sticking it to the masses when our government is now, as you have indicated, giving tax dollars to those masses?

I really can not understand how the ultra-rich can stick it to the masses since they have no direct contact with them. Now,if you say that some of the ultra-rich have conspired with legislators to pass laws which do not help the "masses"then I will agree with you. That,ofcourse, is solved by a voter's revolution--vote for the ones who will NOT work withthe Ultra-rich. The problem with that approach, as I am sure you know, is that the upright, moral and compassionate legislator is almost always defeated by the politician who gains big bucks backing from the "ultra-rich".

Maybe Obama should just declare himself dictator, dissolve the House and Senate and proceed to fund Bread and Circuses. It worked in Ancient Rome( for a while).

@Advocate,
That is a crime and if he is guilty, he should be jailed.but what about Ffranken(stein?)'s tax bill? and what about Senator Burris's perjury? and what about Blagojevich's impeachment. I only mention the latter two because they were good friends of Obama's. Of course, despite Obama's brilliance, he knew absolutely nothing about the crimes committed by those two.

In Illinois, Obama was blessed. It rained political **** for five years and he never got dirty!!
