Did Che and Fidel get what they really wanted from the revolution. In his speech history will absolve me, has fidel's revolution benifited Cuba in the way that he said that it would.
The "26th of July Movement" intended to overthrow Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. And it (they) did so.
You had to finish this homework until when, you said?
I could go on (and on) about this. I'm Cuban.
This is something that I've actually never discussed with anyone since I came to the US.
Fulgencio Batista's rule was a reign of terror, not nearly as sophisticated as Europeans counterparts (dictators) but very brutal in itself. Many dictators from around the world would implement laws to restrict their people but in Cuba, while the constitution would brag about the rights of the people the goverment would kill anyone who dared to speak up, and even those who didn't.
While before Castro there were rich people (who mostly worked with the government) and very, very poor people who were abuse left and right, when Castro took over he decided that everyone was equal. (Communist government) While most rich people left the country, the poor (at first) celebrated because they thought their lives would be better. (and indeed, the older generation is content or at least not willing to rock the boat since they remember clearly how it was before Castro)
Today though, people are resentful about the way there doesn't seem to be a way to make it up in Cuba, people are basically fluctuating from one degree of poverty to another while the movement officials get all the benefits.
I would say that Castro did indeed manage to forge the country into what he wanted, at least to the extent of his power.
