Deb, The euthanasia alone was $60. With the cremation, the bill will be somewhere over $150. I may have to pay in pieces.

Vivien, Yes, Mikey could be loving and sweet. But even the other side of him had its endearing qualities.

One more Mikey story. It happened a couple of weeks ago. I was sitting on the couch watching television. Mikey was lying on the couch with his rear toward me and his head at the other end. With his tail stretched out, he had two cushions, I had one. At some point my finger touched the tip of his tail. I can't remember whether I did it deliberately or not, but I left it there. He lifted his head and looked at me. I looked back. Then he reached toward me and smacked my hand away, hard enough to make a noise. No nails, no scratching. Just a get your blanking finger off my blanking tail. I burst out laughing. He put his head back down. I touched him again, this time on purpose. He looked at me again. I looked at him again. Another smack. Another laugh from me. But I didn't do it again. I figured I had pushed it as far as it should go. I just sat there and laughed. What a strange little guy. Yes, this is the same cat who liked to sit with his head on my knee or his paw in my hand. Those gestures were what he wanted, when he wanted. I had no say.

Oh, Roberta - my heart goes out to you.

A cat that can make you laugh is a gift indeed! A terrible loss.

My Possum is such a clown, always doing something to amuse. He's like a smaller version of Mikey - so I can just imagine the hole in your life.

Thinking of you.

Just dropping in the say hello & goodbye very quickly, Roberta. (I have a lot of work to do tonight.)

<sigh> Still feeling very saddened by the loss of a critter I never ever met & also for his owner, who I do hope, eventually, to meet.

Hang in there, Roberta.
I'm thinking of you.

Roberts, so sorry to learn of the bad news. Mikey might have been in pain when he swatted you.

I didn't realize my Berman cat was dying of cancer until she suddenly viciously bit my hand when I was petting her. This sweet loving cat had never bitten me during her 13 years. This signaled to me that something was very wrong, so I immediately took her to the vet where eventually she was diagnosed with a rare form of cat cancer. I took her to specialists but it was too late to save her. I held her while the vet injected her to avoid any more pain. I had her body sent to an animal cancer research lab to try to save other animals.

I hope you find a loving cat to fill the loss in your life.

Roberta yes, the not-so-nice-side is equally characterful and endearing - I really liked the word image you paint Smile

Paddy has a lot of the not-so-nice side - jumping up on my chair only when he wants something - food or to be let out - then leading me to whatever (door or empty saucer - or even saucer filled with food he considers sub-standard), blinking sweetly over his shoulder to ensure you are following and will obey.

Later on letting him in when he batters the door, only to have him march straight past to the kitchen to check out what's on offer - no greeting Evil or Very Mad and if you dare to pick him up a lot of very bad language Evil or Very Mad Himself particularly adores him

Rosie swats us frequently (not in pain, just doesn't want to be bothered just now) and if that's ignored will bite Evil or Very Mad .... and The Look ..... oh yes we get The Look

I love your stories so please - if you feel like talking - write more.

BBB, Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Vivien, Paddy and Rosie are such, well, cats. Gotta make you smile. I'm all storied out right now. I may have told them all. If something else pops into my head, I promise to share. I can tell you that when I was petting Mikey and I stopped, he would often grab my arm and pull me back. Not a story, just a sweet and catlike gesture.

Vivien, you describe so many cats I have known. But I rather suspect that's what I like about them. Wimps, they are not. They certainly give you a run for your money & you have to be very clever to outwit them!

I'm usually up at this hour. This is when I work. Too restless and unable to concentrate though. So I'm just wandering around.
