Reg, This reminds me of my late, lamented Mikey. He didn't hang from the toilet paper roll. But he did run with it--while my mother was visiting. She was appalled. I was laughing--a lot, big time.

Tangent - my mother was one of the ones to keep children from animals, most especially cats, who might suffocate me in my buggy or elsewhere.

I didn't meet a cat for .. near a couple of decades, that I remember.

I've lived to see this with irony.

I did meet a family irish setter when I was nine. That was Rusty. I remember loving him.

osso, My mother had the same fear of cats. That they would suck your breath away while you were sleeping. My parents were visiting. My mother visibly shuddered when my late, lamented Miranda jumped up on the table. I asked what the problem was and got the answer: breath sucking. I said that there were thousands of pet cats in the city. I asked her if she read the NY Post and the Daily News. Yes. If a pet cat sucked the breath out of someone, didn't she think it would be reported in one of those rags? Yes, it would be reported. Had she ever seen it reported? No. Then maybe it's not true. She calmed down.
