@Irishk,
That video is WONDERFUL!!!!

Here's a part of an email I just sent to a friend with the Miranda part included, for any of you darling folk who are interested:

Quote:
Feeling pretty upset re Miranda right now...silly when she's just dying at a ripe old age, after a happy life, and is still her chatty, deeply loving self, and still loving her cuddles and chats, and her sun-bathing and still alert to all the fascinating things she sees from her window and her balcony. (I was wondering if it was time a little while ago, and came home without her hearing me, and there she was, sun-bathing on the balcony looking blissful...but what struck me was how alert and fascinated she was and how much she came out of her quiescent state whenever she saw anything that interested her. I thought that if she was still so alert and happy she was still enjoying life and it was too soon )

Thing is she's had blood and urine tests recently and I haven't had a chance to hear the results, (vet's been trying to ring me, and I her, but no connection) but from the body language of the support staff I am guessing they aren't good. I have been challenging the need for these tests, since I seem to be able to tell when she's not good, and I kind of wonder if they're a bit of a financial rort for vets if they don't change treatment... but in the absence of being able to talk to my vet, I checked it out with a dear vet friend in the US, and he said that the tests could pick up if the cat was likely to be suffering, and, in their stoical pussy cat way, not showing it. Remember Miranda nearly died from an unbelievably bad chest infection, and only clearly showed for a couple of days in her emotional presentation that she was unwell. AND she had two serious strokes and remained perfectly happy through both of them! So....I am wondering if the tests show it is time, when she is not yet telling me that she is suffering.

Hopefully find out tomorrow.

Man, how that funny little girl has wound herself around my heart!!! She's not especially smart, she's the most (with strangers) neurotic little Siamese I have ever had....but she has always been so loving, so eccentric, so confident and HAPPY, so sure about what she's entitled to and so effective and so intimidating and aristocratic and vocal in expressing her outrage when her demands are not recognized as natural law, so brave in her own funny little way, and so gloriously loving and responsive that she's up there with my darling Phoebe in being hard to lose and it's going to be very soon.

I know you understand. I'll be fine, but it's going to be very hard.

Damn love!!!!!

I know, Dlowan... I know.

I was just last night holding my cat George in my lap and cursing the fates (in a way)that bound us two together. It reminds me of the Waltons episode (yes, Snood watches the Waltons - I still do) when Elizabeth started acting cold toward the whole family after her cat died. When John-boy finally got her to tell him what the matter was, she answered that "She CAN'T love her family, because everything that she loves DIES!" Damn Love is right. I got the two brothers, George and Joe, right after I separated from my first wife. They sort of mark a period in my life when I think I came into my own - and they have been there through all of it - through 4 apartments and 3 States, through everything.

George is loyal as a dog - follows me around constantly, sleeps with me, has to burrow inside my robe so I will hold him for a while in the morning - always so close to me that I forget he's there. And when I realize that - how much like an appendage of my body he is, it scares me that I will have to lose him sometime.

It's stupid - I should just enjoy every moment, and be grateful for the time. And most of the time, that's exactly what I do. Your post just made me think about it, I guess.

@dlowan,
Aw... I have such a clear mental image of Miranda, not just how she looks but how she acts and even how she sounds, it's kind of hard to remember I've never actually met her.

I'm very glad she's still finding pleasure in life.

A cat which scared off potential owners because he looked too much like Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort has finally found a new home. Vets had removed both his ears and nose in a bid to clear him of skin cancer. Although the operation was a success, poor Charlie was left bearing an uncanny resemblance to the evil character played by Ralph Fiennes in the films. Harry Potter fan Sarah Gaden was just one of thousands of people who fell in love with Charlie after reading his heart-wrenching story. Miss Gaden, who lives in Worthing, West Sussex, said: "When I read his heart-breaking story I fell in love with him immediately and was desperate to give him a loving home."

Hmmm...here's the evil Voldemort. See a resemblance?

@sozobe,
Thanks for the understanding guys.

She has a tummy bug at present, and, unless she picks up a lot in the next couple of days, the time is here.

Almost did it yesterday, but she'd had two days in the vet's and I wanted her to have a bit of time at home first. She was so happy to be at home that she was like her old self, but very quiet today. Hard to leave her.

Vet will do it at home, which is great.

@dlowan,
Wishing Miranda all the best for a quick recovery from this bug, Deb.
It's really good that she will be able to be treated at home.

@Irishk,
That cat actually looks Voldemortier than the Ralph Fiennes version, since he's supposed to have snakey eyes. (I think red though, not yellow. Can't remember for sure.)

The nose is perfect.

I meant the vet will euthanase her at home, Msolga.

She's got pills for the bug...but she managed to dissolve it and dribble it all out this morning.

@dlowan,
Oh Deb.
I'm so sorry, I misunderstood.
I'm so sorry it's come to this, so soon.

Dear little Miranda.
She's been a very brave critter through all this.
But so have you, Deb.
