LONDON: Britain is the world's 'favourite nation' but its people are the 'most boring,' while the French have the dubious distinction of being the rudest and the Americans are seen as the most ignorant, according to an international poll published on Tuesday.

More than 25,000 people from 35 countries rated Britain tops in a survey that rated nations on their culture, people and tourism potential. Second in the overall top brand list was Switzerland followed by Canada, Italy and Sweden.

But while British citizens were considered to be the most polite and best educated, they were also rated the most boring. The French were seen as the rudest and Americans the most ignorant and ambitious, according to the poll carried out by international marketing company GMI.

Views of countries' popularity as a place to invest in or migrate to were also sought in the poll.

Yes, Steve, among other things, this would be a classic case of CYA, whichever way the wind blows...

Well, well, it depends which poll is more accurate.

Quote:
Australia, followed by Canada, topped a worldwide survey of the world's favourite nations. One thousand people in 10 nations were asked to rank countries on a series of criteria, ranging across tourism, immigration, exports, investment, culture, heritage and people. The survey of 25 nations was compiled by marketing research firms Anholt-GMI.
1. Australia
2. Canada
3. Switzerland
4. United Kingdom
5. Sweden
6. Italy
7. Germany
8. The Netherlands
9. France
10. New Zealand

The United States dropped from fourth to eleventh place and Sweden moved down to fifth place.

It should also be taken into account which country can most afford to travel abroad. It stands to reason that a country with wealth, will have more people leaving to go visit other countries, and fewer people from other less prosperous countries, going to visit those with more wealth.
