Two uniformed men strolled into the main room of the Little Falls library in Bethesda one day last week and demanded the attention of all patrons using the computers. Then they made their announcement: The viewing of Internet pornography was forbidden.

The men looked stern and wore baseball caps emblazoned with the words "Homeland Security." The bizarre scene unfolded Feb. 9, leaving some residents confused and forcing county officials to explain how employees assigned to protect county buildings against terrorists came to see it as their job to police the viewing of pornography.
Later that afternoon, Montgomery County's chief administrative officer, Bruce Romer, issued a statement calling the incident "unfortunate" and "regrettable" -- two words that bureaucrats often deploy when things have gone awry. He said the officers had been reassigned to other duties.

Probably just a couple of bluenoses, who were enthralled with their positions, and wanted to flex their muscles. I am glad that they were reassigned. They should have veen censured for sticking their noses where they don't belong! Evil or Very Mad

Reminds me of the scene in "1984" when Big Brother's thugs are spying on the couple having sex. This isn't just a slippery slope, it's a slide into oblivion.

These guys were deviants, behaving in a manner unauthorized by their official positions. If they were authorized to behave as censorers I would be very concerned.

Perhaps that's a good reason why Bush has sunk down to a 34% approval rating and Cheney down to 18%. Well, Cheney because he's been shooting off more than his mouth. It's now GWBBB -- George W. Big Brother Bush.

The sex police are probably the worst offenders-- what's that Shakespeare line? Something about protesting too much...you know these guys are probably visiting all the dens of iniquity, whether online or in person. Eesh

In Freudian terms, a common way to keep unwanted impulses repressed is to continually reinforce the psychological sense that they are dangerous, very dangerous. That sense is reinforced by the persecution of people who express those impulses. So, for example, if I fear my own homosexual impulses I go out and bash a gay person. I make his or her life miserable, and in so doing convince my psyche that I must keep my own gay impulses out of awareness. That's what I think of the sex police. Their persecution of others serves to maintain their repression of their own latent impulses/urges/drives, etc.

JL nobody- Are you still relying on Freudian psychology? I think you will find, if you review the literature that Freudianism is dead.

It died when the first patient who had been in psychoanalysis for twelve years who instantly made better on a two week regimen of Zoloft.

But, I did once think like you, JL Nobody.

I constantly repressed my unwanted impulses(because as you say, I thought they were very dangerous) toward "gangbanging". That sense was reinforced by persecuting "gangbangers. So I went out to bash them. My commander said--Good Job, Young man. He was clearly a gangbangerphobe!!!!

You find homophobia everywhere. On my last visit to the dentist, I asked the young lady cleaning teeth
why she wore gloves and a face mask topped by clear plastic lens.

She said HIV is quite prevalent in this neighjborhood.

A perfect example of raging homophobia!!!!!!!!!!

You may be correct, Blue Veined. Then again, you may not be. That depends on your definition of "raging "and whether or not my post fits under your definition or mine!!!

Oh my! I was reliably informed by a respected poster that inappropriate language is definitely proscribed.

Perhaps I was mistaken. I will have to consult some authoritative sources.

quote_Modern Times by Paul Johnson- P. 6

"We now know that many of the central ideas of psychoanalysis have no basis in biology. They were, indeed, formulated by Freud before the discovery of Mendel's laws, the chromosomal theory of inheritance, the recognition of inborn metabolic errors, the existence of hormones and the mechanism of the nervous system which collectively invalidate them. As Sir Peter Medawar has put it. psychoanalysis is akin to Mesmerism and Phrenology; it contains isolated nuggets of truth but the general theory is false"

Perhaps I should write to Mr. Johnson telling him that he is mistaken. He should also let Sir Medawar's disciples know.
