Three people were applying for jobs as covert operatives for the C.I.A. They had had their interviews, and had to pass just one more test before being hired.
The recruiter was sitting in a room with the three applicants. He hands a gun to the first one, and says, "Go into the next room, and kill your wife".
The man turns white, and tells the recruiter that he is unable to follow his order. "Sorry", says the recruiter, this job is not for you". The man leaves.
The recruiter then turns to the second man, hands him a gun, and tells him to go into the next room and kill his wife. He too refuses, and is escorted out of the building.
The third applicant is a woman. The recruiter hands her a gun, and tells her to kill her husband in the other room. She complies, walks into the room, and closes the door. The recruiter hears some noises, but the woman does not come out. After about ten minutes, the woman comes back, looking very haggard. She says,
"You know, the gun that you gave me had only blanks in it, so I had to beat him to death with a chair!"
and then re-arrange the furniture.
