You just got it pierced? When? I would highly suggest that you let it completely heal before you change it.

You can't take it out yet. It needs to heal. Leave it alone.

Let it heal for a few months before changing it.

Well, maybe it is healed then. All you have to do is unscrew the ball on one end of the ring and slide it out. Then, just as you would a pierced earring, slide the new belly button ring (or whatever shape) in and then fasten the end. Piece of cake.

Actually a navel peircing can take 6 to 12 MONTHS to heal. the outside might LOOK healed, but the flesh inside hasn't scared over properly yet. removing the ring even for a moment could cause problems.

When you got the piercing done, you should have been told this... I hope they told you how to take care of it too! If you don't properly take care of a peircing, it might be rejected (ie, your flesh slowly pushes the jewelery to the surface of the skin) or become infected...
there are alot of websites online (google for 'navel piercing') that detail how you should care for your piercing the ENTIRE time it's healing (ie, the 8 or 12 months it takes)...

BUT! Smile My suggestion is to find /another/ piercing place (preferably one that will still be in business in 2 months, lol Smile ) and explain the situation to them and ask if they'd help you switch. I'd also ask what you should be doing to take care of this thing... they might have some good advice. Smile It never hurts to ask questions.. thoguh it can hurt not to (speaking from personal experience here, ow.)

Shocked

Not good news.

On both accounts (the getting it out and the going out of business). If they went out of business, I'd assume that they weren't great at what they did and maybe didn't give you the best information on how to take care of this thing.

Find a piercer and get it checked out. Your skin may have grown around the ring.

kurtyboo,

Definitely get it checked out. Even if you have to, go to a doctor. They can get the belly button ring out. You have to be careful about doing it yourself so you don't cause any damage to your skin.

koiryu, I had no idea it took that long to heal! Shocked I'm glad you said something.

I do know one thing, kurtyboo, it's not something to mess around with. I can no longer wear my belly button ring. For some reason, it gets inflamed within an hour of putting it in and starts to swelling. I just had to take it out. Getting too old for it anyway! Laughing

Please get this looked at and taken care of.

I fully admit, I"m NOT an expert... but..

Momma, that kinda sounds like you have some sort of metal allergy or something--maybe using pure, ah, silver, or gold, or something like that would help. ( I know my ears bleed constantly when I got them pierced, once upon a time. ... it wasn't until years later that soemone told my that I was probably non tollerantto 'fake' metals'... that and I don't think I was cleaning them right,,, no one told me how!!) ... and you're never too old for that sorta thing, unless you really belive you are Smile

Kurty, why can't they take it out until it heals?
well.. if you'rerejecting it, from w hat I understand is if you let it heal up, and get yourself pierced again--but deeper, it should hold.
But anyway.. gla dyou've gotten that sorted out. and I'd tell you not t o go back to that plae you got it done at, but they've already closed, lol. Good luck Smile

Take it to a Naval Doctor. That's what specialists are for.

they make pliers for the captured ball rings (which is generally what people get when they're first pierced and the ball won't come out by twisting or anything like that, you have to pry the ring apart ever so slightly and the ball will just pop out) .. My body doesn't like the metal that is used in those and, while it never swelled or anything, it never really healed properly... I ended up getting a flexi barbell and it's doing great now ... it never hurts and I can play with it and move it around without wincing ....

if your current ring is bothering you, take it out and replace it with something that won't ... or take it out completely and let it heal up ... it may never heal properly otherwise ... I had mine in for a good 3 years or so before I changed it over to the flexi barbell and felt what it was really supposed to feel like.

You can find the pliers online .... this is what one pair looks like:

ring openers

the pair I have has a curved tip and might be more natural to hold, but I got them at Hot Topic and I haven't seen them there in a long time ...

Titanium.

Anyone allergic to body jewelry should get titanium. Very rare that you can't even have that.
