Osteoporitic women sought for clinical trial
By JUDY SIEGEL-ITZKOVICH
Hadassah-University Hospital in Jerusalem's Mount Scopus is looking for women with osteoporosis to participate in a multinational Phase III clinical trial to test the efficacy of once-yearly injections of zoledronate (Zomera), a new drug made by Novartis. A randomly chosen control group will receive a placebo injection plus calcium and vitamin D.
Women aged 65 to 89 who are chosen as participants must come for seven to 10 examinations during the next three years for tests of bone density, blood, and urine, and a spinal x-ray. Participants, who pay no fee, may be taking anti-osteoporosis drugs except for Fosalan. A total of 7,400 women around the world are being tested. Participants should register before Pessah. Call 02-5845094 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. except Tuesdays and weekends, or send a fax to 02-5845050.
