Xingu,

Do you want to live with the God of the Bible forever?

If your answer is no, then why would you presume that you will?

Real
For me the God of the Bible is a false God, created by humans.

Do I believe in God?

Yes, but not that fraud in the Bible.

Momma

I'm a Deist. For me the best evidence of a God is Near Death Experience.

One God for all humanity. One God of absolute love. One God that accepts all faiths or no faiths. One God that judges no one but has each soul judge themselves.

I don't believe in books that present a vengeful, bad-tempered, jealous God; a barbaric, child killing God; an unjust and hypocritical God. If I can't teach my children to behave in the same manner as God in the Bible behaves because such behavior is evil then the God is evil.

That is what is found in the Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Koran; a God that solves all problems with death or the threat of death. Even with Christ one has to revert back to the ancient concept of a death sacrifice.

These religious books were written for humans by humans. They expressed their Gods in terms they could understand, with emotions and behavior they were familiar with. The justice of their Gods are the justice they understood for their time and culture. If humans were to write a Bible today do you think they would create a God that would punish generation upon generation for the sins of an ancestor? Is that how we view justice?

Look at the Gods of the pagans and the God in the Bible. Not much difference. They all express the best and worse of human emotions and behavior. Other then being given great powers they are no different than humans. The Gods were the ancient worlds version of Superman.

And you may notice that our Superman is far more just and humane than their Superman.

xingu,

I appreciate your answer and a very eloquent one at that. I may not agree with what you believe and you may not agree with what I believe but I certainly do not see that as a reason for us not to co-exist on A2K or this planet. Laughing

I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer me so fully.

Thanks.

I was looking for something and stumbled across it while surfing. I enjoy art but have no talent for creating it.

Now that I'm retired I going to see if I can find some time to do some photography.

That sounds great, xingu! I love to take pictures of my cats but everytime I do, their eyes come out like these bright yellow lights. They look possessed! Shocked

Maybe you should get some kitty sunglasses for them. Then you'll have some cool cats.
