Primary car physicians

Seems to me that most primary care physicians, at least in my area, have taken up a specialty as well - I see a G.I. specialist but he's also a primary care doctor, and my primary care doctor is also a lung specialist (which is why I went to him the first place).

My internist is also an infectious disease doctor.

Here is a good explanation of a primary care physician as defined by the

American Academy of family physicians.

Primary care physician is not equivalent to a general practicioner. You can choose a primary care - depending
on your insurance - in whatever specialty field he might be.
In fact, I'd choose a specialist over a GP any day.
