I don't know about the rest of A2K but I thought these intimate little gatherings were about people. I'd much rather look at pics of my husband than a plate of turnip cakes. I don't know what username looks like, or Thomas for that matter.
Sglass, this was taken at the feb gathering...
can you guess which is which?

On the other hand, nobody at a gathering has any obligation to take pictures
at all. And when there are only four people meeting, there's a statistical chance that three choose not to bring cameras with them, and the fourth chooses to take pictures of stuff, but not of people. That's how it happened to come out yesterday.
There's only one guaranteed way to get a look at A2K people gathering: Show up.
(Region Philbis, thanks for helping out!)
Two more comments about the meeting itself: One, I find it remarkable how normal this is becoming for me. At the London meet-up in 2005, which was my first, my feeling had been, "whew, look at me flying 1000 miles to see all those strangers. How weird! This is exciting!" Now it's different: "In a few weeks I'm going to be in the Boston area. There are people there whom I really like, so why don't I hang out with them?" While it's less exciting, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that I can do that. (Thanks guys!) And what makes me even warmer and fuzzier, I could do the same in lots of places now. If next week I have business in Chicago, I'll holler JPB, joefromchicago, and the other Chicagoers, and do the same thing I just did in Boston.
The second thing I wanted to say is that littlek, username, and Merry Andrew obviously love their city, and enjoy showing it off. Their enthusiasm proved extremely infectuous. This is only my second time here, and Boston has already made the shortlist of my favorite places in the world. (And Cambridge, which I learned is not a Boston suburb!) If you don't want to feel sad about leaving Boston, avoid these individuals like the plague!

Unfortunately Sglass has been quite ill for the past year due to an adverse reaction to high blood presssure medications and COPD which has certainly put a cramp in her style - not to mention what a round trip ticket from Hilo,Hawaii costs these days.
I do not understand why you feel you have to speak for Kris, as she is an articulate, intelligent woman . I directed my comments to her not you.
Now I know why she took pictures of the turnips cakes.
sglass, I'm sorry to hear you've been ailing. Are you on the mend now?
You seem rather upset about my not having taken any people pictures. I wish you'd asked in advance that I do take people pictures. As Region pointed out, there are pictures of all of us on this site somewhere.
I see pics as an extra bonus, not an obligation.
All of these people have met each other before and have pics on a2k, in this very thread i think.
The crab cake looked much better than I do--you can trust me on this/
I don't want to speak for seaglass, but I think she had hoped to see
a current picture of MerryAndrew, her husband.
You spoke for me correctly Jane.
You have a certain sensitivity I appreciate.
Seaglass
Hi Sglass, Hope you are doing dandy with your health. It was good to see MA going up into Canada for a respite, and his participation at the Boston Gathering. I'll have to make it into Boston one of these days.

We usually don't have any sort of filling in our social calendar -- this time was fluke-y -- so next time we hope to see you!

Sglass -- I feel a strong urge to argue with you about both the substance and the style of these points. But I'll resist it, seeing that you're upset, and, thanks to CJ,
why you're upset.
Best wishes for your recovery. And believe it or not, they're sincere.
CJ and sglass, i certainly did get that (i think we all did) and can appreciate it,however that doesn't change what i said, i still think that pics are just a nice extra bonus and getting actually cross with Kris for not taking people photos is, well, it is your choice. anyway, i just think it was carried out slightly in poor taste. Why on earth is Kris responsible, of all people, for getting the pictures online here?
She isn't. She is only one of four participants who didn't provide the people pictures Sglass expected to see. (I'm another, and that's the reason I responded to Sglass's complaint. The reason wasn't a mistaken assumption that kris can't speak for herself.) If there is an obligation to provide pictures of gatherings, we all failed to meet it.
But you're right: There is no such obligation. Nobody has to take pictures at a gathering unless he or she wants to. And nobody has to take pictures of anything in particular at a gathering unless he or she wants to. Picture-taking is entirely voluntary, and when it doesn't end up happening, noone has standing to complain about it.
(PS: Nice to see you at least online this weekend, Dasha! Hope your book chapters are maturing well.)

It was a weird week, socially, for me too!
thanks, thomas. chapters are not going according to the time plan in my head....soooo.....VERY long night ahead.

Special thanks to you, then, for making time nonetheless. You're a treat to hang out with. (That goes for Merry Andrew and Username, too. Thank you all so much!) And there will certainly be a next time to do things we hadn't time for this weekend -- even though it's few months away.

Good luck! And consider yourself served a quintuple cyber-espresso, or whatever it takes to get you through the night.
Thomas, It was weird because my plans kept not happening. I should thank all of you for following through and meeting me out!
