Amusingly, the word y'all (which I spell as yall) is spreading into the vocabulary of folks throughout the U.S. It is a nice word, non-judgemental as to race, class, gender, sexual orientation or whatever other divisions there might be in our society. It is a friendly word; a gentle word; an Andy Griffith word. A word from a simpler, kinder, world.

Yall, or some variation, will make it into the dictionary someday. -rjb-

But the pronunciation is not good outside of the South. It is a two syllable word, damn it. I can, if need be, conduct a class on this in Harvard Square at 6 pm on June 6th.

I have always wanted to say "when I taught at Harvard," Maybe just to the pigeons in Harvard Square. But if I can say I taught a class in "cultural linguistics." That would be awesome.

It's in my Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, 1975 edition (that's 1975).

"You" is a bit awkward to use (as to its perceived meaning) because the plural is the same as the singular.
People in the Glasgow area of Scotland have solved this by inventing the word "youse".
Dialect is sometimes very pithy and direct, and useful.

"Youse" is pretty widespread--Australia (they attribute it to Irish immigration), and particularly stereotypical Brooklynese, but also some parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. So, see all youse guys on 6/6. And it would be nice if you and yours could make it too, McTag, we'd love to see all y'all.

Beware of things that go 'bump' in the night. (You posted that after midnight, RP).
